244 - The Body as One - Shoulder Mechanics & Exercises for Stability and Mobility
Saturday 22 October 2011: 13H00 - 14H30
Fabio Comana

Movement efficiency in the upper extremity requires a unique relationship between stability and mobility within the lumbar, thoracic, scapulo-thoracic and gleno-humeral regions. Muscle imbalance alters key physiological, neurological and mechanical properties leading to musculoskeletal overload, overuse and potential injury. Effective programming for upper extremity movement (push, pull and rotational) necessitates a comprehensive understanding of the stability-mobility relationship, a detail often overlooked by fitness professionals. This interactive session briefly reviews the kinesiology of the upper extremity, stability-mobility requirements of each region, and provides a programming template to promote the movement efficiency within the upper extremity.
